This… this is utterly fascinating. The amount of strain that is put on horses’ legs is incredible.

And yet I ALWAYS hear “But I don’t need tendon support for my horse.”

This gif is uncomfortable to watch but so cool

I would never ride, especially jumping, without tendon boots I’m so scared of hurting Posh. If tendon boots and the likes of them reduce the chance of injuring my horses precious legs then I will fucking put them on my horse to do every possible thing to minimise risk to my horse. People who say tendon boots are pointless are incorrect.

Tendon boots do literally nothing to support the horse’s tendon, as strain is vertical within the tendon - nothing external can strengthen it in any way. BUT - what tendon boots CAN do, is protect the tendon from a horizontal force striking it when it’s vulnerable. You can see from this gif that the tendon is placed under incredible strain during even normal movement, and while it is designed to bear this load, if struck while under pressure - say by the horse’s rear hoof, which can definitely happen if the horse slips or over-reaches - then the chances of the tendon snapping can be increased. So, keep using tendon boots! They are important, just not in the way that people might think =)

Please note in no way did I say tendon strain ^~^ I said from injury! Just in case anyone has a ho at me for being incorrect :3
